After spending nearly a decade in the retail industry, I’ve had the opportunity to work at two of the three largest retailers in the U.S. What I’ve learned is that even the savviest shoppers aren’t aware of what is included in the prices they pay. The following series of blog entries will explain all the hidden costs that all consumers should know so they can make an educated decision and find the best deal (part 5 of 10).
Those glossy catalogs by Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, West Elm, IKEA and Home Decorator’s Collection are wonderful tools for browsing products and researching furniture styles. The weekly circulars for Target and Wal-Mart can also be helpful for finding sales. However, most consumers would not order the catalogs if they were actually charged for the cost of printing and mailing.
